Terms of service
Last updated October 30, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Patientier. They apply when you use patientier.com or any site Patientier runs for an organization. By creating an account or using a site, you agree to them. Please also read our privacy policy.
What Patientier is, and isn't
Patientier helps you find and follow clinical trials. Trial information comes from ClinicalTrials.gov, the public registry run by the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
- It isn't medical advice. Nothing on our sites tells you whether a trial is right for you. Talk to your doctor before making decisions about your care.
- We don't run trials and don't decide who can join them. The people running each trial do.
- Trial information can be wrong or out of date. We show what the registry publishes. Simple summaries are written by AI and can contain mistakes (see Simple summaries written by AI); the trial's own record is what counts.
- In an emergency, call your local emergency number. Don't use Patientier.
Simple summaries written by AI
On a trial's page, Get a simple summary asks an AI service, Anthropic's Claude, to rewrite the trial's ClinicalTrials.gov listing in plain language. It works only from the listing's public text, such as its title, conditions, design, treatments and descriptions. Nothing about you or your account is sent to it. A summary is kept, shown to anyone on any Patientier site who asks for the same trial, and rewritten when the listing changes.
No person, doctor or researcher checks a summary before you see it. AI makes mistakes, and its mistakes can sound confident. A summary can:
- leave out something important the listing says, such as a risk, a visit or a test;
- get a fact wrong, such as a dose, a schedule, how long the trial lasts or what each group receives;
- explain a medical term wrongly, or too simply;
- make a trial sound more or less promising than its listing does.
A summary doesn't cover who can join a trial, whether it's open, or its dates; the trial's page shows those from the listing. A summary is only a reading aid. It isn't medical advice, and it doesn't say whether a trial is safe, helpful or right for you. The listing on ClinicalTrials.gov is the official record: check anything that matters to you against it, and talk to your doctor and the trial's team before deciding anything about a trial.
By using simple summaries, you agree that you understand these risks and accept them. You use summaries at your own risk, and as far as the law allows, Patientier isn't responsible for mistakes in them or for decisions made based on them.
Your account
- You must be 18 or older to create an account.
- Use an email address you can read, and keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens in your account.
- An account on one site is separate from an account on any other site, even with the same email address.
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings.
Using our sites fairly
Don't:
- try to get into accounts or parts of a site that aren't yours;
- copy our sites in bulk with automated tools, or put heavy load on them;
- use trial contact details to send spam or anything other than a genuine question about a trial;
- break the law or anyone else's rights while using them.
Google Maps
The city field uses Google Maps. By using it, you agree to the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
Paid plans
Some features need a paid plan. Prices are shown before you pay, and sales tax is added where it applies. Plans renew each month until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time; you keep the plan until the end of the month you paid for. If a payment fails, you keep the plan while we try your card again for about two weeks. When a paid plan ends, for any reason, we keep your oldest saved search active and pause the others until you upgrade again; you can choose which saved search stays active. We never delete your data because a plan ended. Deleting your account cancels a paid plan at once, without a refund for the rest of the month.
Organizations
An organization, such as a patient group, research group or hospital, can subscribe to have Patientier run a trial site for it. These terms cover that subscription, and the person who signs up agrees to them for the organization.
- Whoever signs up confirms they're allowed to act for the organization they name. We may pause a site that misrepresents an organization.
- The subscription renews each month until it's cancelled, and sales tax is added where it applies. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the month already paid for. If a payment fails, the site stays open while we try the card again for about two weeks.
- A site always needs an admin to manage its subscription. While the subscription is active, a site's only admin can't delete their account: they cancel the subscription first, and can delete their account once the site is paused.
- When the subscription ends, the site is paused: its members can still sign in to delete their account, but can't use the site. A site paused for 90 days is closed, and its members' accounts and everything in them are deleted. We email every member when the site is paused, and again 30 days before it closes. Subscribing again before then reopens the site.
- Members' accounts, saved searches and saved trials are kept by Patientier under our privacy policy. The organization doesn't own them and can't see or export them, and members can delete their account at any time (a site's only admin, once it's paused).
Emails
We email you sign-in codes and other account messages. If you turn on the weekly email for a saved search, we send it each week until you turn it off; every weekly email has a link to do that. On plans that include it, we email you on days a trial you saved changes, until you turn it off in Settings or from any of those emails.
Ending your use
You can stop using Patientier and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or to protect other people or our sites. If we stop offering Patientier, we'll give you notice first when we can.
Our responsibility
We work to keep our sites accurate and available, but we provide them as they are, without promises that they'll always be available, free of errors, or that any trial will suit you or accept you. As far as the law allows, Patientier isn't responsible for decisions you make based on information on our sites, simple summaries included, or for indirect losses. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we'll update the date above. If a change is significant, we'll email you before it takes effect. Using a site after that means you accept the new terms.
